Green Welcome Wagon Wins Green Pelican Award
September 8, 2009: City of Klamath Falls' Mayor, Todd Kellstrom, awarded a Green Pelican Award to Klamath Sustainable Communities and Klamath Couny Economic Development Association in a ceremony at City Hall on September 8. The two organizations won the award jointly for the concept, development and implementation of the Green Welcome website. Leslie Lowe accepted the honor on behalf of both organizations. She recognized Trey Senn of Klamath County Economic Development Association and Jerry Haugen of Global Creations Media Engineering as being instrumental in making the website happen.
The City of Klamath Falls and Klamath County have led the state of Oregon and the nation in the use of sustainable resources including the local geo-thermal resource. Given the multitude of local businesses and activities working in the realm of sustainability and green products, the City sought to recognize the leaders in these efforts This was the first year of the Annual Green Pelican Awards.

- Green Way EcoMart - in recognition of Green Products and Eco-Friendly Community Classes
- Oregon Institute of Technology - in recognition of Activities in Education, Research and Operations towards Sustainable and Green Practices
- Precision Structural Engineering and Nabil Taha - in recognition of 11 years of Green Engineering and Involvement
- The Ledge - in recognition of its Solar Energy Panel System
- Nightfire Natural Foods - in recognition of the Promotion of "Buy Local" and Resource Conservation
- Klamath County Museum - in recognition of its Naturescaping Project
- Eco Solar - in recognition of Solar Energy Education Efforts
- Jim and Stephanie Carpenter - in recognition of 20 years of Environmental Health Actitivies
